Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Here we are, a full year after the end of the Packers/Favre marriage, which ended badly due to both sides not communcating with each other as they should have. Many have their take, but it's over and PackerBackers are moving on. The Team survives and will survive as long time doesn't stand still.

Right now, the Pack has in place their franchise quarterback, in Aaron Rodgers. Mark Tauscher, about 2 seasons ago, nicknamed Rodgers as Bootlegger, since apparently it happens to be one of Aaron's favorite plays; all forms of it. You will see me refer to the new #12 with that moniker quite often. Last season, Aaron Rodgers had a Pro Bowl season in his first as a true starter and not simply as Gunslinger's backup. Rodgers racked up 28 TD's and over 4,000 yards (4038). Folks, this is simply amazing for a first year QB, period. Brett Favre didn't scratch 4,000 yards until 1995.

Rodgers came in 6th, in the League, against all other quarterbacks. His touchdown versus interceptions ratio had him 5th in the League. Can you name the other four veterans who beat out Aaron Rodgers? Right now, there's all this ruckus over Jay Cutler being traded to Chicago and potentially changing the landscape of the NFC North. Cutler threw for 4500 yards, with only Drew Brees and Kurt Warner beating Jay out in that category. But, here's the thing. Cutler also came in 2nd, with only Brett Favre beating him out... in interceptions. A real football afficiendo is going "hmmmmm" right about now.

The real difference between Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler? Cutler has more games played, but Rodgers has the edge in maturity. Cutler may never learn that part. I think it all depends on which Coach he has to work with. And, in Chicago, he's now stuck with the same Coach who turned him down for a scholarship at Illinois. Cutler's dad still sees red when someone brings it up. You do the math.

All packerfans are now watching, more than they ever have in several seasons, what will happen between two of the biggest situations - 1) The Packers have changed their Defense to the 3-4. They have a new Defensive Coordinator in former Head Coach Dom Capers. They also have new Defensive Assistants in Kevin Greene, OLBs and Darren Perry, Safeties. From this fan's armchair, these three new hybrids are exactly what the Packers have needed since Jim Bates walked away. While the 4-3 has been the Packers staple for a long long time, for the last three, the top defenses in the League have come from the AFC and have been the 3-4. Pittsburgh and Baltimore came in 1st & 2nd, respectively.

And, -2) The Packers have needs and the Draft is only 3 weekends away. Whether it's Nose Tackles, Defensive Ends, Offensive Unit personnel.. the Packers have needs. On our IndyPackerBackers website, we have a little Draft Picks Contest going on. In the coming days, the discussion will be on what players the Packers would be better off with. The discussion will also be about Ted Thompson's preference to take 'best player available' over the "player they need"....

I had a previous Lambeau Midwest created, but it accidentally got deleted. Basically, it's a place for me to rant 'and' rave about the Green Bay Packers. Time to recreate the wheel, I say. I like Blogspot as it demands a bit more knowledge of HTML to get the job done, and it's all about learning, right? So, let's do this.

Go Packers!
